The Ducks (19-8) peppered the 'Eaters (12-14) for runs in five of their eight offensive innings which started off with a three-run first inning highlighted by an RBI triple by Jake Bennett. Oregon really put things away with another three-spot in the fifth inning with another triple being the focal point, this time a two-run one from Taylor Travess to put Oregon up 9-1 toward its 10-1 victory.
UCI mustered a single run in the third inning as Evan Cassolato and Mikey Duarte would team up for a pair of two-out doubles to break the silence. UCI stumbled the rest of the contest leaving eight runners on base including a pair of runners on three occasions.
Part of that was the efforts of Oregon starter David Peterson who struck out 11 Anteaters in his six innings of work allowing the one run and issuing no walks to pick up the win. Anteater starter Jordan Bocko was roughed up for six runs, five earned, over just four innings to drop to 0-2 on the season.
Oregon got contributions up and down the lineup starting with Bennett who fell a home run short of the cycle on the night. Seven different Ducks drove in a run, and Taylor Travess making just his fourth start of the year was the only one to have multiple runs and RBI.
Cassolato and Duarte brought a majority of the Anteater offense especially Duarte with his two-hit game. Keston Hiura singled in the eighth to extend his on-base streak to 26 games, and UCI got pinch-hit singles from Dailin Lee and Ryan Johnston, the first of his career for Johnston.
The 'Eaters will look to start anew on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. start with a chance to win the series still in the balance.
