IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's track & field team will have four athletes competing at next week's NCAA West Preliminary Championships in Austin, Texas, as the list of accepted entries was released today.

Senior Megan George qualified for her third-straight regional meet in the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best 13.30 at the adidas/Steve Scott Invitational (April 29). George had four individual victories on the year, including at the Big West Championships where she won her third consecutive conference title. George is the school-record holder with a personal-best 13.28.

Sophomore Barbara Coward is set for her second trip to the NCAA West Prelims as she ranks 14th in the discus. Coward's qualifying mark of 180-08, which broke her own program record, came at the Ben Brown Invitational on March 11. She has thrown for over 174 feet in nine of 10 meets this season and is coming off a runner-up finish at the Big West Championships.

Junior Persis William-Mensah will be competing in the 100m at the West Prelims for the second year in a row. William-Mensah, who was the Big West runner-up, registered a school-record 11.57 at the Mondo Team Challenge on April 1. She also had four wind-aided sub-11.50 times with a personal-best 11.41 coming at the Mt. SAC Relays (April 14). William-Mensah placed no lower than third in eight races this year and was the top finisher five times.

Junior Tyra Jones earned a West regional qualifying mark in the 100m hurdles at the Big West Championships last weekend. She had the top time in the prelims with a personal-record 13.38, which put her at No. 2 in school history. This will be Jones' first NCAA postseason appearance.

The University of Texas at Austin will serve as host to the NCAA West Preliminary Championships, May 25-27, with the three days of competition taking place at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The top-12 finishers in each event advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 7-10.
