The women’s soccer program enjoyed its most successful
season in 2010, winning its first-ever Big West Conference
regular-season championship and advancing to the NCAA Sweet
Sixteen. The Anteaters became the first team in Big West history to
go undefeated and untied in league games at 8-0-0 and posted the
program’s highest number of wins at 19.
UCI hosted the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program
history, defeating Arizona State, 2-1, in the first round and then
handing Wake Forest a 2-0 shutout loss in the second round. The
Anteaters would end the season ranked No. 14 in the nation, its
highest-ever ranking.
Two Anteater standouts were named All-America, giving UCI its
first All-Americans in the sport of women’s soccer and Tanya
Taylor became the first Anteater to be selected in the
Women’s Professional Soccer draft in 2010.
