Kronemann is entering his seventh season as head coach of the
Anteaters.
In 2010, Kronemann led UCI to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Big West Tournament. Kronemann was also named Big West Coach of the Year. He led UCI to a Big West regular season co-championship in 2009 and in 2008, he coached Victor Lamm to an appearance at the NCAA Singles Championships. Kronemann returned to his alma mater after serving as the head coach at Cal Poly for five years. Kronemann is a 1990 graduate of UC Irvine where he earned All-American honors each of his four years, an accomplishment achieved by only a handful of players. Kronemann earned NCAA All-America honors in singles all four years and in doubles in 1989 when he was a NCAA finalist with partner Mike Briggs. He helped UCI to four Big West Conference titles and was named Big West Player of the Year in 1990. Kronemann won conference singles titles all four years and doubles titles twice. He was ranked 14th in singles at the end of his senior year and finished his UCI career with a 127-63 singles record. Kronemann was ranked No. 1 in doubles with partner Shige Kanroji in 1990. The Anteaters advanced to the NCAA Championships each of his four years and ranked as high as fourth nationally in 1989. As a senior, he was honored with the National ITA Van Nostrand Award, which goes to a promising collegiate player entering the professional circuit. In 1999, he was inducted into the UC Irvine Athletics Hall of Fame. Kronemann played professional tennis for eight years on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour, ranking as high as No. 19. As an ATP professional from 1990-98, Kronemann participated in all Grand Slam Tournaments. During his career, he achieved six career ATP Tour Doubles titles and was a finalist in five other championships. As a player, he also served as Vice President of the ATP Tour Player Council. He is the current head coach of the Newport Beach Breakers of World Team Tennis. Kronemann previously servedas head coach of the Springfield Lasers for seven seasons whom he led to the Western Conference title in 2001. He was named Team Tennis Rookie of the Year as a member of the Charlotte Heat in 1990 and was the league's MVP on two occasions. In 2005, Kronemann was named to the World Team Tennis All-Star 30, a group of the best men's and women's players in the 30-year history of the WTT. |

Assistant Coach Rob Nelson |

Rob Nelson is in his seventh season of his second stint as an assistant coach at UC Irvine. Nelson was the Assistant Boy's Tennis Coach at Santa Margarita Catholic High School from 1999-2006, helping the team to the CIF Playoffs in seven seasons. Santa Margarita was a four-time Serra League finalist and the 1999 Serra League champion in his time at the school. Nelson is the Founder/CEO of National Preferred Mortgage, a residential mortgage brokerage firm in Orange County. He has worked in the mortgage industry since 1985. Nelson spent the 1991 season as the Anteaters assistant coach under Head Coach Greg Patton, helping UCI win the PCAA team championship and earn the year-end ranking of No. 17. Nelson was a five-time PCAA Conference champion for the Anteaters from 1981-83 with two singles and three doubles titles and helped UCI to two conference championships, and a career high national ranking of No. 9. He went on to the ATP Tour in 1981, 1983-85 holding a world ranking in singles and doubles, and competed at Wimbledon in 1984. |

Volunteer Assistant Coach Chris Tontz |

Chris Tontz is in his third season as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater. Tontz played for the Anteaters from 1991-95 where he earned All-Big West first team honors in singles and doubles in 1994 and 1995. He won a Big West No. 1 double title in 1993 with partner Aaron Stolpman. As a senior, Tontz received the ITA/Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship & Leadership Award for Region VIII. He was also recognized as the Big West Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1992. |
