Position: Associate Head Coach
Experience: 6th Season
College: Davidson (1999)

Ali Ton is in his sixth season on the UC Irvine staff and he was named associate head coach in the fall of 2012.

A highly-acclaimed recruiter in the U.S. and internationally, Ton was an assistant coach at Radford University for the previous three seasons. One of his recruiting highlights at Radford was All-American and two-time Big South Player of the Year, Art Parakhouski from Minsk, Belarus. Radford reached the NCAA Tournament in 2008-09 for the second time in the school's history.

Ton is not a stranger to Orange County. He was a standout point guard at Los Alamitos High School, earning the honors of All-CIF and MVP of the Sunset League in 1995. He still holds the steals and assists record for the Los Al Griffins.

Ton began his coaching career at his alma mater, Davidson College, helping the Wildcats to the 2004 Southern Conference South Division regular-season title. Ton moved on to Western Carolina following that season and then to Binghamton University in New York for two seasons.

In the summer of 2005, he was an assistant with the Turkish National U-20 team that competed at the European Championships.

Ton was an accomplished point guard at Davidson, finishing his collegiate career as the all-time assists leader and second in steals. He helped the Wildcats reach the NIT Tournament in 1996 and the NCAA Tournament in 1998.

Prior to moving to the coaching ranks, Ton played professional basketball in Turkey for four years. In his final year of pro ball, he was a member of Galatasaray, one of the largest athletic clubs in the world.

He is the son of Necmi Ton, who was a professional coach in his native country of Turkey. Ali Ton earned his bachelor's in political science from Davidson in 1999. He and his wife Elizabeth, who is a Southern California native, have a daughter, Leyla, and son, Kaya.

"I'm thrilled that Ali Ton joined my staff at UCI," Anteater head coach Russell Turner said when Ton was hired. "He is a winner who played in Orange County and has an outstanding reputation here. "People throughout college basketball recognize him as one of the finest recruiters in the game. His experience as a professional player and agent in European basketball gives our program knowledge and contacts that can immediately benefit our players. He is an excellent coach who is incredibly smart, and he and his family are great additions to the UCI community," Turner added.
